In the event of burn-back, where the flame burns back to the jet, immediately 
turn off the gas supply at the control valve on the front panel. After ensuring 
the flame is extinguished re-light the appliance. Should burn-back occur again, 
close  the  control  valve  and  call  for  a  service  technician  to  examine  the 
appliance and do not use until the technician declare it safe to do so. 

 

This appliance is fitted with an oxygen depletion sensor for your safety. Do not 
interfere with, or remove, or modify this device. 

 

Do not remove the model rating plate attached to your appliance. This contains 
important information in addition to the serial number of the unit, which the 
manufacturer will require, should you need to make a service call.

INSTALLING  THE  GAS  GRATE  (FITMENT  OF  THE 
APPLIANCE)

 

 

This appliance is designed as a vent free or flue-less appliance. If installed as 
such, carefully read the ventilation requirements indicated in 

SECTION 12

 of 

this booklet, the specific requirement of SANS 10087-1 and any municipal by 
laws. 

 

If installing into an existing fireplace, with or without a manufactured firebox, 
always ensure that the chimney has been properly cleaned before installation 
takes place. 

 

If installing in an open area without a firebox, ensure that the surrounding area 
is  clear  of  flammable  materials  for  a  minimum  of  1  meter  all-round  the 
appliance. 

 

If installing in an open area, the appliance should be mounted on a plinth, not 
less than 500mm above the floor level. The plinth must be constructed from a 
non-flammable material e.g. brick or concrete. 

 

Do  not  install  the  appliance  against  a  wall,  unless  that  is  of  a  double  brick 
construction or well insulated wall. 

 

Refer to the table in Section 2 for recommended manufactured firebox sizes 
per model number. 

 

If a damper is installed in the flue, make sure that it is functioning correctly. 

 

It is particularly important to ensure that the gas grate is placed on a flat, level 
surface. Failure to take note of this may lead to performance problems.
