Drive Belt Replacement
Replace drive belt when it shows signs of severe cuts,
tears, excessive weather checking, and cracking or burns
caused by slipping. Slight raveling of belt covering does
not indicate failure. Trim ravelings with a sharp knife.
Inspect belt pulley grooves and flanges for wear. A new
belt, or one in good condition, should never run against the
bottom of the groove. Replace pulley when this is the case,
otherwise belt will lose power and slip excessively.
Never pry a belt to get it on a pulley as this will cut or
damage the fibers of the belt covering.
Keep oil and grease away from belts, and never use belt
dressings. Any of these will destroy the belt composition in
a very short time.
!
CAUTION
Make certain to keep fingers from getting caught between belt
and pulley when rotating belt over pulley.
Replace drive belt as follows:
1.
Park vehicle on a flat surface, move gear shift lever to
neutral, set park brake, turn off engine, remove
ignition key, and disconnect negative battery cable.
2.
Remove bolt (See Figure 6-4) that secures the body to
the back left corner of the vehicle’s frame. Remove
bolts securing drive belt cover. Pull on the back left
corner of body only far enough for the belt cover to
clear the body while lifting it up out of the vehicle.

3.
Hand squeeze the belt together between the upper
and lower sheaves to force the belt into the lower
variable speed sheave. This should open the lower
variable speed sheave side walls allowing room to
remove the belt.
4.
Remove belt by rolling it off over the lower sheave and
then lifting it up off the top sheave.
5.
Reinstall new belt by placing it over the top sheave
and then rolling it over the lower sheave.
6.
Reinstall belt cover and fasteners.
7.
Reattach the body to the back left corner of the
vehicle’s main frame.
8.
Reconnect battery negative cable.
Engine Air Filter
Refer to Figure 6-5
Below is a general description of engine air filter
maintenance. See Engine Operator’s Manual for a
detailed description.
Dual Air Filter Maintenance Schedule
•
Inspect filter elements after each use.
•
Clean filter elements every 3 months or every 50 hours
(whichever comes first).
•
Replace paper element every year or 300 hours
(whichever comes first).
•
Service more frequently when used in dusty
conditions.
•
Replace foam element when damaged.
Dual Air Filter Maintenance Procedure
1.
Remove wing nut from air cleaner cover and remove
cover.
2.
Remove wing nut from filter elements and remove
filters.
3.
Separate foam filter element from paper filter element.
4.
Inspect both air filter elements and replace any that
are damaged. Always replace paper filter element at
schedule intervals listed above.
5.
Clean air filter elements as follows:
• Paper element - Lightly tap edge of filter element
on a hard surface several times or blow not more
than 30 psi compressed air through the filter from
the inside to the outside. Do not brush dust off the
element. Brushing will damage the paper and force
dust particles into the element.
IMPORTANT: Over flexing the body will damage it. Do
not pull on the body more than what is necessary for
the belt cover to clear the body while lifting the cover
up out of the vehicle.

NOTE: Do not operate engine without both air filter
elements or with a damaged air filter element. Dirt will
enter the engine causing rapid engine wear and void
engine warranty.
