Section 1: Assembly & Set-up
Uncrating Instructions
The shipping crate is assembled together with nails. It
can be disassembled by prying or cutting the lumber
apart. Be careful not to scratch, dent or cut the mower
and seat during disassembly of crate. It is best if two
people are present. Skip the first step below if uncrating
the ZT60i Zero Turn Mower.
1.
If uncrating the ZT72i Mower, remove seat from
shipping crate as follows:
a. Remove the 2 x 4 boards above the mower seat.
b. Loosen the two lag screws under the seat 2 turns.
c. Remove top lag screw and carefully lift seat out.
The remaining uncrating instructions are for the
ZT60i and ZT72i Zero Turn Mowers.
2.
Remove end and side panels from the crate.
3.
Cut metal bands securing the front and rear wheels
to the crate floor. Discard bands.
4.
Lift mower from crate floor with a hoist or other
suitable lifting device.
Torque Requirements
Refer to “Torque Values Chart” on page 62 to determine
correct torque values for common bolts. See "Additional
Torque Values" at bottom of chart for exceptions to
standard torque values.
Discharge Chute Assembly
Refer to Figure 1-1:
The discharge chute is shipped loose.
1.
Attach discharge chute (#1) to the deck by inserting
3/8"-16 x 1" GR5 round head square neck bolts (#2)
up through the deck bottom as shown.
2.
Secure with 3/8" flanged locknuts (#3). Tighten nuts
to correct torque.

IMPORTANT: To protect mower undercarriage, lift
mower off the crate floor with a hoist or other
suitable lifting device. Do not drive mower off the
crate floor. as this can bend or break components
underneath the mower, especially the transaxles.

Hitch Plate Assembly
Refer to Figure 1-2:
A hitch plate (#1) is supplied with the mower and is
shipped turned around backwards and mounted to the
rear bumper.
1.
Remove two 5/16"-18 x 5/8" GR5 hex flange
screws (#2) and hitch plate (#1) from under the
bumper.
2.
Rotate and reinstall hitch plate (#1) as shown with
existing 5/16"-18 x 5/8" GR5 hex head flange screws.
3.
Tighten 5/16" hex head flange screws (#2) to the
correct torque.
ZT72i Control Lever Assembly
Refer to Figure 1-3 on page 11:
Control levers (#2) are factory shipped rotated down and
secured with bolts in control levers.
1.
Loosen bolt (#6A) on upper right control lever (#2).
2.
Remove bolt (#6B) from lower right control lever (#2).
3.
Rotate control lever up until slot in upper control lever
aligns with hole in lower control lever.
4.
Reinstall 3/8"-16 1 1/2" GR5 hex head bolt (#6B), flat
washer (#8) and 3/8" nylon lock nut (#7).
5.
Repeat steps 1 to 4 for the left control lever.
6.
Align control lever handles with each other and
tighten bolts (#6A & #6B) to the correct torque.

IMPORTANT: Do not pull a trailer or implement
exceeding 300 pounds towing capacity and 50
pounds tongue weight. Loss of control may result.
Do not make turns that will cause a trailer or
implement being towed with the hitch to come in
contact with the mower or damage may result.
