2/ Description of Interface Access Methods
This section describes various access methods to the OS prompt and the management
controllers. For a visual representation of the paths, refer to Section 1.8. For the serial
console connection, refer to Section 3.1.
To configure, monitor and troubleshoot MS platforms, many interfaces can be used:
ShMC CLI through the serial port of the hub or through the management port of the hub
ShMC API through the management port of the hub
ShMC and Switch SNMP Agent through the management port of the hub
Switch Web UI through the management port of the hub
Switch CLI through the serial port of the hub or through the management port of the hub
OS prompt through the serial port of the hub, through the management port of the hub, or through the data uplinks
of the hub
BMC CLI through the serial port of the hub or through the management port of the hub
System Monitor (not described in this guide) through the management port, includes a web user interface and a
programmatic API to monitor and control system components, including the ShMC and MSP nodes (refer to the
System Monitor User Guide)
Using a serial console connection is the safest way to proceed when making configurations.
It is the method recommended by Kontron and described in Section 3.1.
To access interfaces via the management connection, the ShMC management IP address is
required. Refer to Section 1.8 and to SYMKLOUD MS platform application notes to configure
and get this address.
