Control of the HPLC Pump K–1001
Basics for operating the HPLC-Pump K-1001
Power On and Selftest
On power on the instrument displays HPLC PUMP MAXI-STAR, and the
VERSION of the software, e.g. 6.0X. The instrument performs a self test,
including firmware validation and tests of RAM and motor unit. After completion
the message
SYSTEMTEST OK
indicates that the pump is ready for operation
and the ID of the last active program is displayed.
Never run the HPLC Pump K–1001 without liquid in the pump head or in
the piston backflushing compartment. For piston backflushing, follow the
instructions given in chapter „Piston Backflushing“ on page 32. Operating
the pump without solvents may lead to damage of the pump seals.
Appearance of the Cursor
You can use the yellow arrow keys on the foil keypad for positioning the blinking
cursor on any field of the menu screen.
The cursor appears as underscore character while entering data, see Fig. 5.
Use the numeric key pad for data input, Pos. {2.3} in Fig. 2, and refer to SOP 2
„Entering Data“ on page 12.

Menu Structure of the HPLC Pump K–1001
The display of the HPLC Pump K–1001 uses one main screen with status
information of the instrument. From the main screen you can access four
additional screens for display of parameters.
By default, the HPLC Pump K–1001 displays the parameters of the first
program line of the currently active program.
The center part of Fig. 6 „Menu Structure of the HPLC Pump K–1001“ shows an
example of the main screen.
