Expansion interface
The CP 50x/x requires the follwing expansion interfaces:
●
KeBus
●
Expansion bus
KeBus
The KeBus is located on the right side of the CP 50x/x and is used to con-
nect input/output modules. The input/output modules can be lined up next to
each other in any order.
Expansion bus
The expansion bus is located on the left side of the CP 50x/x and is used to
connect expansion modules.
The maximum number of expansion modules that can be added depends on
the number of PCIe lanes and sync lines provided by the CP 50x/x, see
"Technical data".
Each extension module requires its own line on the extension bus. A line
cannot be used jointly by several extension modules. This means that lines
used by extension modules that are closer to the controller are no longer
available to extension modules that are further away.
The CP 50x/x provides only one PCIe lane on the expansion bus. If an ex-
pansion board that requires one PCIe lane is queued, then this single PCIe
lane is consumed and no more PCIe lanes are available.
If an expansion board is installed that requires two PCIe lanes for full func-
tionality (e.g. two Ethernet interfaces), then only one interface is available for
this expansion board, since the second PCIe lane is missing for full function-
ality.
