Helix test
The SMU-CL (Sterilisation Monitoring Unit-Load Control) is a disposable test system
for steam sterilisers with fractionated pre-vacuum for monitoring sterilisation cycles
at 121℃ or 134℃.
Note
The helix test is only designed to function on sterilisation programs with a fractio‐
nated prevacuum.
This test may only be used for sterilisation processes with a previous vacuum pha‐
se. You may only use the programs Sterilize 1 or Sterilize 2.
▶ Place the SMU-LC for loading in the chamber, and start the test cycle with the
program Sterilize 1 or Sterilize 2.
See also: 6.4 Selecting and starting a program, Page 45
▶ Once the sterilisation cycle is complete, remove the SMU-LC (take hold of it by
the tear flap) and allow it to cool briefly.
▶ Open the tear flap and check the colour of the indicator.

The colour of the indicator
will have changed comple‐
tely from light blue to
black.
Incomplete indicator co‐
lour change to dark blue or
blue-green.
▶ Record the result of the test. Remove the label from the SMU-LC and attach it
to the test report.
▶ Complete the report and throw the indicator away.
Note
The test report template can be downloaded for free from www.stericop.com.
Microbiological tests
Note
When carrying out microbiological tests, KaVo recommends positioning the biolo‐
gical indicators in various places in order to test for homogenous sterilisation
throughout the chamber.
7.3.4 Safety check
A safety check needs to be run every two years according to VDE 0701-1.
