1. Remove both split pins

2. Loosen and remove the locking lever

Fitting the ball coupling
Fitting the towing eye
1. Use screw connection to fixate the ball cou‐
pling and the adapter.
2. Use new, self-locking nuts.
3. Tighten the screw connections of ball cou‐
pling and adapter with the specified torque
4. Position the adapter

of the ball coupling
between the two serrated joints of the side
parts.
5. Pass the bolt fully through the side parts.
6. Screw the locking lever

onto the thread of
the bolt.
7. Check if:
■ The serrated joints correctly engage
with each other.
■ The ball coupling is set horizontally.
8. Tighten the locking lever

9. Tighten the locking lever

10. Check if:
■ Both side parts are correctly seated.
■ The ball coupling is correctly seated.
11. Insert both split pins.
1. Position the towing eye between the two
serrated joints of the side parts.
2. Pass the bolt fully through the side parts.
3. Screw the locking lever

onto the thread of
the bolt.
4. Check if:
■ The serrated joints correctly engage
with each other.
■ The towing eye is set horizontally.
5. Tighten the locking lever

7. Check if:
■ Both side parts are correctly seated.
■ The towing eye is correctly tightened.
8. Insert both split pins.

Replacing the ball coupling with a towing eye in towing systems with overrun brake
The rear fastening screw

has also the function of a shock absorber retaining screw. Because the
shock absorber extends independently during de-installation, you must thread the fastening eye of
the shock absorber. Use a mounting pin (thin metal rod with ø 0.3–0.4 in.) to facilitate the installa‐
tion. In order to be able to remove the ball coupling or the towing eye and the spacers from the
towbar when the shock absorber's eye is threaded, the length of the mounting pin must be smaller
than the diameter of the towbar, see also illustration 22.
The following alternative tasks must be carried out to change the towing eye or the ball coupling.
