7.6 Equipment for MIG/MAG welding and MIG brazing
7.6.1 Connection of the welding torch
Prepare the welding torch according to the desired scope of application, insert it into
the central torch connector (
) and tighten it. Connect the welding torch
hoses of watercooled welding torches to the plug-in connectors (
) as
per the colour markings. Blue indicates the forward and red indicates the return flow of
coolant.
When using gas cooled welding torches, the torch cooling connectors have to be bridged.
Connect the two plug connections (
) by a short piece of hose, so that coolant
can be pumped freely from forward (blue) to return flow (red).
7.6.2 Workpiece connection
Insert the workpiece cable into the minus socket (
) at the rear and lock by
turning.
The workpiece cable must be installed in the vicinity of the weld point and be secured that it
cannot get loose. Rust, paint, contamination and non-conductive coatings must be removed
from the clamping point of the workpiece cable. The return line should always be completely
unwound and lay down without loops. At „arc blow“ (arc distractions) the use of multiple
workpiece cables with different clamping points can be useful.
7.6.3 Connection of gas supply
•
Place the gas bottle onto the bottle holder on the rear panel of the machine
•
Secure the gas bottle with the tension belt
•
Remove the protective cap from the gas bottle
•
Open cylinder valve briefly to gently blow out dirt.
(Gas outlet opening facing away from the body!)
•
Connect pressure regulator to gas bottle
•
Attach gas hose to the pressure regulator and to the shield gas connection
) on the rear panel of the power source (G ¼“, SW 17, right thread)
•
Open bottle valve slowly
•
Check all connections for leaks!
The required amount of shielding gas at the pressure regulator is adjusted with pouring gas.
Switch the welding unit on. Press the key „Gas test“ (
2) to start flow of inert
gas and adjust the desired flow rate with the adjusting screw of the pressure regulator.
Rough estimate of the required amount of inert gas:
Gas nozzle inner diameter in mm x 10 = amount of inert gas in l/min
