6.4 Potentiometer control (Option)
There are many applications where power setting of the welding unit and / or correction
is set by potentiometer. These potentiometers specify an absolute value which is valid
over the entire system and can only be changed from that single point.
This application is not compatible with the current operating philosophy of the E2 / E4 range,
where we work with encoders and thus have the opportunity to intervene from different
locations on the settings of the machine.
We can, however, remain compatible with these existing applications by the use of an
additional p.c. card, called „SBP“. If this card recognizes that a potentiometer is
connected, the encoders in the system are disabled and only the potentiometer setting
will be considered.
The application area of the p.c. card is extended to the use of hand shields with integrated
potentiometer and also push-pull torches with integrated potentiometer.
The functioning of the card is set via DIP-switches:
DIP switch 1 = ON
➔
Poti 1 available
DIP switch 2 = ON
➔
Poti 2 available
If the DIP-switches are in position „OFF“, the relevant potentiometers are not evaluated,
i.e. the machine works like without potentiometer connection. The same situation is without
the bridge between „B“ and „C“.
If the plug is inserted, the relevant values can no longer be adjusted on the front panel.
If the plug of the potentiometers is disconnected, the values can be adjusted on the original
front panel of the power source.
