Section 8, Operating the Hurricane
®
Chinook Heating System
International Thermal Research
8-5
Do not operate the Hurricane
®
Chinook Heating System until it
has been filled with a suitable heat transfer fluid (water/anti-
freeze solution) and all trapped air has been removed from the
system.
The heat transfer fluid used in the Hurricane
®
Chinook Heating
System must be a non-toxic propylene glycol based coolant, with
additives generally recognized as safe ”GRAS” by the FDA.
8.4 Activating the Burner (Primary) and
AC Heat (Supplemental) from the
TouchScreen Remote Operating
Panel
Activating the Burner (Primary Heat Source)
•
The burner button on the Touchscreen Remote Operating
Panel turns ON/OFF the diesel burner (primary heat source).
When the burner button is turned ON, the burner button and
the flame symbol will illuminate, after ten seconds the diesel
burner will turn ON. The burner will continue to operate until
the coolant in the Hurricane
®
Chinook reaches the set cycling
temperature at which point the diesel burner will shut OFF. If
the system coolant should cool down below this temperature
range, the burner will again fire and continue until either the
burner button on the remote panel is turned OFF or the
cycling temperature is again achieved. The Hurricane
®
Chinook enters a two minute cool down stage prior to
completely shutting down when the burner is turned OFF, or
the cycling temperature is achieved and the burner stops.
Activating the AC Immersion Element(s) (Supplemental
Heat Source)
•
Use the AC power button on the Touchscreen Remote
Operating Panel to switch ON either one electric heating
element or two elements
•
The AC up arrow and the electrical symbol will illuminate.
1.5Kw will indicate the current draw from one element; if the
AC up arrow button is pressed again, 3.5Kw will be displayed
indicating the current draw from both electric elements. The
element(s) will continue to operate until the coolant in the
