6920 Communications Server Reference Manual 7-5

ActiveX Control

The 6920Api.DLL is an ActiveX Control that controls the

6920 communications engine through Windows 32Ćbit apĆ

plications. The following is a brief description.
The Norand 6920 ActiveX Control" is for applications that

support the Windows Messaging System and can be used by

many application development tools to access the functionĆ

ality of an ActiveX or OLE control. These include Microsoft

development tools such as Access," Visual C++," Visual

Basic," and Visual FoxPro," and many other thirdĆparty

applications that support ActiveX controls.
The Norand 6290 ActiveX Control" interface exposes propĆ

erties, methods, and events to an application's container

object. These allow a user to start and stop 6920 processes

and query their statuses.
One advantage of using Norand 6920 ActiveX Control" is

that it fires a message event" that can be received and

handled by the application in which the control is conĆ

tained. The message event immediately notifies the conĆ

trol's container that a message is in the queue and availĆ

able for display.
Currently, all messages are stored in a single list. A user

may filter out selected message types by setting the ExĆ

clude<type>Message" property for Comm, Import, and ExĆ

port messages.
The Exclude<type>Message" property can be used at deĆ

signĆtime or runtime. A second option for accessing mesĆ

sages is also available in the control. If a user checks the

poll messages property in the control, message events" are

no longer fired to the container application, rather the user

is responsible for calling the GetMessage()" method.
Another advantage of using the Norand 6920 ActiveX ConĆ

trol" is that it informs the user of changes in a process by

changing the colors of the circles in the control.
