Compensation for marked abnormal sitting posture and/or sitting posture insta-
bilities facilitates stable, pain-free sitting in a physiological position� Corrected,
relaxed sitting is made possible where there is substantially impaired stability or
no stability of the torso, or where there is substantial deformation of the torso�
3. Specific Function
Seat shells stabilize the posture in a therapeutically desirable position thanks to
the body-enclosing construction of these therapeutic appliances� In this way, they
facilitate the awareness and contact of the insured person with his environment,
improve vital functions, such as respiration and cardiovascular activity, prevent
spasticities and facilitate the active use of the arms and hands for independent
movements and activities�
