Command line startup
The RMON Manager can also be started from the command line:
1. Open a command prompt.
2. At the prompt you can enter the following commands:
RMONMGR [IP=
<IP address>]
[COMM=
<SNMP community>]
[ALIAS=
<probe alias>]
[NEWDLG
]
Depending on the entered command, the RMON Manager is
started either with a blank program window, an existing probe
window or the
NEW RMON probe
dialog.
Example: Assume that you want to manage a switch with the
community name
production
, the IP address 101.102.103.104,
and the switch name
Production_switch
, then the command
entered in the command line is as follows:
RMONMGR IP=101.102.103.104 COMM=production
ALIAS=Production_switch
Local Management
Purpose
The main features of the switch’s Local Management facility are:
■
It can be accessed from any workstation on the network using
Telnet
■
Access can be password protected to exclude unauthorized per-
sonnel
■
Two distinct levels of management rights: administrator and user
■
Log files (to pinpoint trouble sources) to provide diagnostic
information for troubleshooting
■
Detailed system information and operational statistics
