5.6.2.2. Messages in Traditional Chinese
To send a
message in Traditional Chinese, first install the ‘
SMS Server tools
’ package. For more
detailed information regarding the installation of this package, refer to Section (d) of Chapter
5.6.2.1. Before you can send a message in Traditional Chinese the locale configuration for the
system must be changed to
UTF-8
encoding. Refer to the procedure described below for details of
how to accomplish this.
Step 1: Use the following command to create a new system locale and write the
‘LC_CTYPE=zh_TW.utf8’ environment variables to the ‘/etc/default/locale’ file, as
illustrated in Figure 5.6.2.2-1.
(Note
: ‘
zh_TW.utf8
’ is the UTF
-8 code for Traditional Chinese.)

Setting the system locale
Step 2: To apply the new configuration, type the ‘
reboot
’ command to restart the LinPAC.
Step 3: Use the ‘
/etc/init.d/sms3 start
’ command to start the SMSD service in the background.
Step 4: Send a message to a mobile device
using Traditional Chinese. The results of the
execution are as illustrated in Figure 5.6.2.2-2.
