b) Using the drive lever, pull the drive about 2.5 cm (1 in) from the system. Pull the drive out far
enough to prevent it from interfering with the removal of the disk drive backplane.
c) Repeat “16.a” on page 43 through “16.b” on page 44 for the other front drives.
17. Remove the disk drive backplane:
• If you have a base function disk drive backplane, continue with step “18” on page 44.
• If you have a NVMe drive backplane, continue with step “19” on page 46.
18. Remove the base function disk drive backplane:
a) Label and disconnect the signal cable (A) and the power cable (B) from the disk drive backplane
and system backplane as shown in the following figure.
Note: If your system has a BPM, you disconnected the power cable from the rear of the disk drive
backplane in a previous step. For this step, you need to disconnect the power cable from the
system backplane only.
Unlatch the clips that secure the connectors to the disk drive backplane and to the system
backplane.
