Define Extent
The user’s new extent is compatible with the seek argument from steps 4a and 4b. The other
parameters are the same as the original parameters.
Locate
Record
Bytes Contents
0
Same as in original Locate Record command, except:
If sense byte 3 equals ‘01’ and the original Locate Record command byte 1, bit 7
was ‘1’, then set byte 0, bits 2–7 to equal ‘16’ and set byte 1 to zero.
If the original byte 0 was ‘01’, set byte 0 to ‘81’.
See the notes that follow.
1
Same as in original Locate Record command, except as described for byte 0.
2 Zero
3
The number of CCWs to process, obtained from sense byte 3
4–7
The seek address from steps 4a and 4b
8–11
The seek address from steps 4a and 4b
12–15 Zero
Notes:
1.) If one CCW remains and the original Locate Record command specified Read Count
suffix (byte 1, bit 7 was ‘1’), then the Locate Record command in this step must specify
Read (16) and no Read Count suffix.
2.) If the original Locate Record command had a Write Data operation, then the Locate
Record command in this step must have data area orientation.
TIC
To the interrupted CCW.
Error Message
The following type of error message should be included in the operating
environment of all Internal Disk users.
Message 1:
The following type of message should be used on all hard errors and
include the following types of information:
Message Code
Failing command
Device and channel number
Status and sense bytes sent to the host system.
The console information should allow the host operator to distinguish between
probable:
Operator errors
User errors (programming)
Data checks (media failures)
Equipment checks (hardware failures).
ERPs for ECKD 32-Byte Sense
For ECKD 32-byte sense data, byte 25 identifies the program action. Logging and
message functions in sense byte 24 are a part of all program actions. If a
recording action is specified, the host program must create one of the following
records:
Miscellaneous Data Record (MDR) type 90 for records read from a Read and
Reset Buffered Log Command
Outboard Recorder (OBR) type 30 for all other records.
