(1) The sense data is not logged if the Format (byte 7, bits 0–3) is ‘0’ or ‘F’.
Error Recovery Actions
Table 7-1 on page 7-1 shows the sense data, and which of the following actions to
perform for the error condition. If message to operator (byte 1, bit 3) is a ‘1’, issue
a message to the operator to notify the operator and/or service representative.
Programming Note:
When any of the following recovery actions specify a
Transfer in Channel (TIC), the ERP must test the CCW to which the
channel status information is pointing. If the channel status information is
pointing to a user’s TIC command, the ERP must TIC to the command
address specified in the user’s TIC. This is done to prevent a program
check when a TIC is followed by a TIC.
Action 1:
Post the job with a permanent error. (See “Message 1” on page 7-5.)
Action 2:
Exit with programming error or unusual condition indication.
Action 3:
1. Repeat the operation one time.
If the error is intervention required (byte 0, bit 1), issue a message to the
operator indicating that intervention is required on the reporting logical volume.
Then queue the I/O request until an interrupt is received from the logical
volume indicating that it has been made ready.
2. If the error condition continues, do Action 1.
Action 4:
1. If sense byte 25 contains X
'
1D
'
, the control unit or logical volume is in a long
busy condition.
Redrive the request when the subsystem presents a state-change interruption
(the pending condition ended).
Note:
If the host is timing I/O operations, the request may be redriven at some
period greater than 15 seconds. The subsystem continues to return
long busy sense data while the operation is in progress.
2. Repeat the operation 256 times.
3. If the error condition continues, do Action 1.
