1.3.4 Configuring Association Between Interface Backup and
Routing

Interface backup can be associated with the routing function to implement fast switching between
the primary and backup interfaces. When the routing entry of the primary link is deleted or
becomes inactive, the backup interface starts to transmit traffic.

Applicable Environment

If the link between RouterB and the Internet fails, RouterA cannot detect the route change caused
by the link failure. As a result, service traffic is lost.

The preceding problem can be solved by associating interface backup with routing. After being
associated with the routing module, the interface backup module monitors the routing entry of
the uplink to the Internet. If the routing entry is deleted or becomes inactive, the interface backup
module starts the backup interface. When the routing entry is restored, the interface backup
module blocks the backup interface and starts the primary interface.
