Note:  The purple handle indicates that the EMU is 
hot-pluggable when used with an HP StorageWorks HS-type 
controller. 

The EMU performs the following functions: 

• 

Assigns device SCSI addresses, in conjunction with the I/O module 

• 

Monitors various temperatures relevant to optimum system operation:  

—  If the internal system temperature reaches 45°C (113°F), the EMU causes the 

amber System Fault LED to become illuminated. 

—  If the ambient (room) temperature reaches 50°C (122°F) and Insight 

Manager is running on the system, the EMU sends a signal to this utility to 
indicate an alarm condition.
