17 Review the settings and click Finish.
18 Click OK to acknowledge the warning.
19 Click Close.
Create vCenter Data Center and Management Cluster
Procedure
1 Using a web browser, connect to the VMware vSphere Web Client.
2 Click the vCenter Inventory Lists link in the left panel.
3 Click the Datacenters link in the left panel.
4 Click the icon in the center pane below the green plus sign to create a data center.
5 Type <<vcenter_dc_name>> as the data center name, select the vCenter Server that is available in the
list, and click OK.
6 Right-click <<vcenter_dc_name>> in the list in the center pane and click New Cluster.
7 Set the following values in the New Cluster dialog box and then click OK to create the new cluster:
•
Name: <<vcenter_mgmt_cluster_name>>.
•
DRS: Select the DRS checkbox.
•
vSphere HA: Select the vSphere HA check box, and leave the default values.
•
EVC: Disabled.
Note
If servers are mixed with different Intel
®
processor families within a vCenter cluster, it is necessary
to enable the VMware Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) mode. For more information about setting
up the EVC mode, see
Enhanced vMotion Compatibility (EVC) Processor Support
and
•
Virtual SAN: Do not select this checkbox.
Add Hosts to Management Cluster
Procedure
1 Double-click <<vcenter_dc_name>> in the left pane.
2 Click Clusters in the left pane.
3 Right-click <<vcenter_mgmt_cluster_name>> in the bottom left pane, and click Add Host:
a Type the first management server’s FQDN (<<mgmt_server_1_fqdn>>) and click Next.
b Type root as the user name and <<mgmt_server_root_password>> as the password. Click Next.
c If prompted with a security alert, click Yes to accept the server’s certificate.
d Review the host summary and click Next.
e Assign a valid VMware vSphere license and click Next.
f
Click Next on the Lockdown mode tab.
g Click Next on the Resource pool tab.
h Review the configuration parameters, and then click Finish to add the host.
4 Repeat this section for the other management servers in the configuration.
Configure vCenter Power Management
Procedure
1 Before you begin, find the MAC address of the server’s iLO.
You must have this MAC address before you can set the IPM/iLO power management setting.
