Technical Service Manual M9 Transfer Stretcher (M999-29, Version 11, June 2021)

HORIZONTAL SIDE RAIL - GAS STRUT ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT

ummary:

This service instruction outlines the procedure to replace the gas strut assembly of a horizontal side rail.

Tools Required:

• 4mm hex key

• 6mm hex key

• small flat blade screwdriver

• tie down strap

Parts Required:

• 1x horizontal side rail gas strut assembly

Location:

The gas strut assembly is located below the side rail, towards

the foot end of the stretcher (see Figure 3).

WARNING:

The side rail can collapse once the gas strut is

removed. Ensure the side rail is restrained.

Procedure:

1. Raise the deck to the maximum height position and apply

castor brakes.

2. Raise the side rail to the upright position.

3. Using a strap (B), secure the side rail in the upright

position.

4. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry out the plastic tab

(D) covering the grub screw (see Figure 4).

5. Using a 4mm hex key, loosen the grub screw (E) slightly.

The grub screw is used to lock the gas strut from rotating.

6. Using a 6mm hex key, remove the cap screw (F) securing

the foot end of the gas strut. Allow the gas strut assembly

to hang (see Detail A).

7. Unscrew the threaded end of the gas strut (G) from the

pivot hinge.

8. Reverse the procedure to install the new gas strut.

NOTE:

Prior to tightening grub screw (E), ensure upright

bars are vertical. Adjust by turning the gas strut

body. Tighten grub screw (E) to lock in position.

9. Verify the side rail functions correctly before returning to

service.
