5.3. Starting up
This section contains all important instructions for opera-
ting staff to start up and operate the machine safely. The
following information must be complied with and checked
without fail:
•
Type of installation
•
Mode of operation
•
Minimum water cover / max. immersion depth
These details are also to be checked after a prolonged
standstill period, and any defects discovered are to be
eliminated.
In order to prevent damage to property or injury to per-
sons while starting up the machine, the following points
are absolutely to be complied with:
The machine may only be started up by persons quali-
fied to do so and in compliance with the safety notes.
•
All personnel who work on the machine must have
received, read and understood the operating instruc-
tions.
•
This machine is suitable for use under the stated ope-
rating conditions only.
5.4. Preparatory work
The machine has been designed, constructed and assem-
bled in accordance with the state of the art so that, under
normal operating conditions, it will give long and reliable
service. It is a prerequisite for this, however, that all requi-
rements and instructions be complied with.
Please check the following points:
•
Cable routeing – no loops, slightly under tension
•
Check the temperature of the conveyed medium and
the immersion depth
•
If a hose is used on the pressure side, it is to be rin-
sed with clear water before use, so that no deposits
can cause blockages
•
In a wet well installation, the pump sump is to be
cleaned
•
The piping system on the pressure and the suction
side is to be cleaned and all valves are to be opened
•
The pump housing must be flooded, i.e. it must be
completely filled with the medium, and there must
be no more air in it. Venting can be done with suitable
venting devices in the plant or with venting screws at
the discharge outlet, if present.
•
Check accessories, piping system and suspension ar-
rangement for secure and correct seating
5.5. Electrical
The selection and laying of electrical lines and the connec-
tion of the motor must comply with the appropriate local
and VDE regulations. The motor must be protected with a
motor protection switch.
Danger due to electrical current.
Handling electricity improperly involves mortal dan-
ger.
5.6. Direction of rotation
No check is necessary for 1ph motors, since these always
run in the correct direction of rotation.
5.7. Motor protection
1-phase motor
Pumps with 230 V/1Ph motors are fitted with a capacitor
in the lid of the motor housing.
5.8. Ways of starting up
Starting up with a plug
Insert the plug into the socket intended for the purpose.
The pump will start running immediately. If a float switch
is used, the pump will start running as soon as the float
switch is initiated.
5.8.1. After switching on
The nominal current is briefly exceeded during the start-
up process. After this process ends, the operating cur-
rent should no longer exceed the nominal current. If after
being switched on the motor does not start immediately,
switch it off immediately. Before switching on again, the
switching intervals stated in the technical data must be
observed. If there is another malfunction, the machine
must be switched off again immediately. It must not be
switched on again until the malfunction has been rectified.
The following points should be checked:
•
Switching rate and switching intervals (see Technical
data)
•
Air drawn in at the intake: a baffle plate must be at-
tached if necessary
•
Minimum water cover, level control system, dry-run-
ning protection
•
Smooth running
•
Check for leakages and, if appropriate, take the nec-
essary steps given in the “Servicing” section
