This section describes the setup for the INK1000 card printer.
For installation information, see the
FARGO INK1000 Color Card Printer Installation Guide
(PLT-04369)
that is included with the printer.
2.1 Selecting a good location
The following guidelines help to ensure optimal performance:
n
Place the unit in a location with adequate air circulation to prevent internal heat buildup.
n
Use the dimensions of the printer as a guideline for the minimum clearances to the unit.
n
Allow for adequate clearance in front of the unit to accommodate the unit with its covers open.
n
Do not install the unit near heat sources such as radiators or air ducts or in a place subject to direct
sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration, or shock.
2.2 Moisture condensation
If the unit is brought directly from a cold to a warm location or is placed in a very damp room, moisture
may condense inside the unit. Should this occur, print quality may not be optimal.
Leave the unit unplugged in a warm, dry room for several hours before using to allow any moisture to
evaporate.
2.3 Unpacking and inspection
While unpacking the printer, inspect the carton to ensure that damage did not occur during shipping. Make
sure that all supplied accessories are included with the unit:
n
US/EU power cable
n
USB cable
Make sure you have these accessories that are supplied separately:
n
Ink cartridge
n
Cards
2.4 General card information
Important: Although HID has done extensive testing both with HID UltraCard™ cards and off-the-shelf
PVC cards produced by other manufacturers, not every available card on the market could
be tested / validated. HID Global recommends HID UltraCard-brand cards (UltraCard and
UltraCard Premium). If the intent is to use non-HID-branded PVC cards, we invite partners to
validate their specific card stock. End customers can arrange for a card sample test with
their HID partner to ensure card compatibility prior to purchase. Please contact your local
HID Sales Representative or HID Reseller for additional information.
The printer prints onto any card with a clean level, and polished PVC surface.
Suitable cards must have a polished PVC surface free of fingerprints, dust or any other types of embedded
contaminants.
