D. Horizontal Stabilizer and Elevator Assembly.
13. At the tail end to enable the pine wood strip to bend at the required angle you will need to make a small cut. Then join together 2 x A23 and
A24, once assembled trim with a hobby knife to form the tail into the required point, glue together and hold with clamps as the glue sets. Do
this over the plan to ensure the tail pulls together evenly and to the correct profile.
1. Before you start to build the horizontal stabilizer you will need to
soak the balsa strips in water before bending to the shape shown
on the plan. We recommend that you cover this part of the plan
using clear food wrapping film and scotch tape before pinning the
balsa down in the required shape as it dries out, this will keep the
plan clean and dry. Once the balsa strip is dry, assemble the
structures in the sequence shown. Check the fit of each part and
sand as necessary before glueing into place. Keep the assembly
pinned down until fully dry to stop twisting or warping of the struc-
tures. Next add the trailing edge, the mounting blocks and the ribs
as shown.
