Fit the appropriate extension cables to the servo leads and secure each connection
with a piece of heat-shrink sleeve or a drop of cyano. Set all the servos to centre from
the transmitter, and fit the output levers on the output shafts.
With the servos at centre, attach the servos to the mounting blocks using the screws
supplied in the servo accessory packs. Press the rubber grommets and tubular metal
spacers (flange on the underside) into the servo mounting lugs. Use the metal
spacers as a template for the drilling the 1.5 mm Ø pilot-holes for the retaining
screws. You may find it easier to fit the tubular spacers if you slip them onto the shaft
of a small screwdriver beforehand.
Extend the servo leads as required, then route them through the wing panels using a
length of thread: tie the thread to the lead just behind the connector, and draw them
through the wing until they exit the root ribs.
Use your fingers to locate the holes for the horns on the underside of the ailerons
and landing flaps, and melt away the film over the holes using the tip of a hot
soldering iron.
Remove the film from the ailerons and flaps over the area of the threaded horn
bases. Prepare the aileron and flap horns by assembling the threaded sleeves,
cheesehead screws, horn lugs and nuts as shown in the photo.
Insert the horns in the holes in the ailerons and landing flaps, and set them to the
stated length. Glue the horns in the ailerons and flaps.
Assemble each pushrod from two M2 clevises, two M2 nuts and an 85 mm length of
M2 studding (threaded rod). Determine the correct length of the pushrods by
connecting them to the horns and the servo output arms. Adjust the clevises to suit,
and tighten the locknuts against them to prevent them working loose. With the servos
exactly at centre, check that the control surfaces are at neutral. Apply a drop of UHU
schraubensicher (thread-lock fluid) to each nut when you are satisfied.
The next step is to install the main retractable undercarriage units in the wing panels:
use the tip of a hot soldering iron (or a sharp balsa knife) to remove the covering film
over the wheel bays.
Before the retract units can be installed, the aluminium angle brackets must be
screwed in the wing recesses as shown.
Position the retract units on the aluminium brackets and mark the position of the
holes for the retaining screws: place the retract units in the recesses and check that
they rest flat on the bracket surfaces. Mark the hole positions on the brackets,
remove the retracts again and drill 3.2 mm Ø pilot-holes at the marked points.
Clear all traces of drilling swarf from the retract recesses, removing the retract units if
you have already fitted them. The retract units can now be installed permanently;
remember to connect the compressed air lines to them first.
