Place the tailplane in its slot, centre it carefully, then mark the outline of the fuselage
on the tailplane by running a felt-tip pen along the joint line.
Remove the tailplane, draw the tip of a hot soldering iron along just inside the marked
lines, and peel the film away from the tailplane.
Carefully remove the covering film from the tailplane mount on the fuselage using a
balsa knife.
Glue the tailplane to the fuselage using white glue (UHU Wood Glue). Align the
tailplane as previously, and pin it in place while the glue is setting.
The fin can be glued in place once the tailplane joint has set hard. Note that the fin
must be installed at right-angles to the tailplane. This can be checked with a
setsquare, or by measuring from the top of the fin to both tailplane tips.
Allow the glue to harden fully, then attach the horns to the rudder and elevator. The
horn for the rudder must be cut down as shown in the photo. When installing the horn
please ensure that the clevis linkage hole lines up accurately with the hinge pivot
axis. Snip off excess screw length using side-cutters, and file the ends back flush
with the spreader plate.
The elevator and rudder servos can now be installed in the servo plate. The first step
is to press the rubber grommets into the servo mounting lugs, followed by the metal
tubular spacers (flange at the bottom). Threading the metal spacers onto a small
screwdriver makes it easier to push them through the grommets. Drill 1.5 mm Ø pilot-
holes in the servo plate, using the tubular spacers as a guide.
Connect the receiving system and set the servos to centre from the transmitter. Fix
the servos in place using the retaining screws supplied with them. Fit the servo
output arms as shown, and mark the correct length of the pushrods. Drill out the
linkage holes in the servo output arms to suit the diameter of the pushrod material
and the swivel pushrod connectors, which are used for the steerable nosewheel and
throttle linkages.
Use a pair of flat-nose pliers to bend the pushrods at right-angles at the marked
points. Shorten the angled ends so that they project out of the plastic retaining clips
by about 1.5 mm.
Install the swivel pushrod connectors and tighten the retaining nuts just to the point
where the barrels rotate smoothly, but without noticeable slop. Apply a drop of UHU
schraubensicher (thread-lock fluid) to the nuts to prevent them working loose.
Connect the pre-formed end of the nosewheel steering pushrod to the outermost hole
in the nosewheel steering lever; you may need to adjust the bends.
