In this position mark the position of the screw-holes in the motor lugs on the arms of
the motor mounts.
Drill holes at the marked points in the motor mounts. The motor can now be screwed
in place, but not before connecting the pre-formed end of the throttle pushrod to the
carburettor throttle arm. Working from the front, slip the throttle pushrod through the
hole in the firewall, and thread it through the transverse hole in the swivel pushrod
connector mounted on the throttle servo.
Fix the motor to the motor mounts using the screws supplied.
Assembling and installing the fueltank
Cut a piece of silicone fuel tubing and push it onto the fueltank clunk weight. Push
the free end of the fuel tubing onto the straight tube in the fueltank stopper, and
check that the clunk will be able to move freely inside the tank without binding or
jamming when the stopper is in place. Push the stopper, with the pre-formed pipes
already attached, into the neck of the tank as shown. Note that one tube must point
down (for filling the tank), and the other up, to act as overflow when filling. This fuel
line is later connected to the pressure nipple on the silencer. Mark the fuel lines using
a felt-tip pen or coloured tape to indicate which is the fuel feed, the filler and the
pressure line. Push the tank cap fully over the neck of the fueltank and tighten the
cross-point clamping screw. It is important to ensure that the screw is tight enough to
seal the fueltank completely.
Fit the tank in the fuselage through the main opening, and thread the fuel tubes
through the hole in the firewall. Secure the fueltank with a cable tie, so that it cannot
slip out of position when the model is in the air.
Connect the fuel lines to the carburettor etc. according to their markings. Install the
receiver battery and the ON / OFF switch in the tank compartment, as shown in the
photo.
Attaching the cowl
You will need to cut various openings in the cowl to clear the cylinder head /
glowplug, silencer, needle valve etc.; the positions will vary according to the engine
you have installed. Cut and file the openings to shape. Slide the cowl onto the
fuselage to the point where there is about 1.5 mm clearance all round between the
spinner backplate and the nose fairing.
The cowl is attached by means of two screws on each side as shown in the photo;
they should be positioned in such a way that they engage in the centre of the
thickness of the firewall. The actual position of the screw holes will be about 31 mm
measured from the rear edge of the cowl.
Mount the propeller and spinner on the motor shaft; the propeller should be at around
the 1 o’clock position when the motor is at TDC (top dead centre); see also the
instructions supplied with the motor.
Canopy, cockpit fittings
Install the cockpit fittings as shown in the following sequence of photos.
