Problem
Possible Cause
Solution
Power loss or sudden engine cut-out
Fuel Tank (36) empty
Refill Fuel Tank
Water in the fuel
Drain the fuel system and flush with 2-stroke mix
air filter element clogged
Service air filter element or replace if necessary
Engine will not start
Ignition Switch (11) switched off
Switch on Ignition Switch
Fuel lines clogged
Clean fuel lines and flush with new 2-stroke mix
Fuel Tank (36) empty
Refill Fuel Tank
Spark plug defective or wrongly gapped
Refer to ‘Maintaining the spark plug’ and replace Spark Plug if necessary
Engine or carburettor fault
Contact your authorised GMC service centre to arrange repair
Ignition not primed
Ensure to prime the ignition using the Primer Bulb (38) before starting
Engine difficult to start
Air filter element dirty or clogged
Refer to ‘Maintaining the air cleaner’
Fuel contaminated or impurities in fuel system
Clean fuel lines and flush with new 2-stroke mix
Deposits on the spark plug electrodes
Refer to ‘Spark plug maintenance’
Incorrect use of Choke Lever (39)
Use Choke Lever only if engine is cold
Carburettor or choke mechanism damaged
Contact your authorised GMC service centre to arrange repair
Engine runs erratically; changing revolutions
Carburettor fuel/air ratio settings wrong
Adjust carburettor as described in ‘Carburettor adjustment’
Carburettor defective
Contact your authorised GMC service centre to arrange repair
Chainsaw does not cut effectively, and produces fine sawdust
Saw Chain (25) blunt
Sharpen or replace Saw Chain
Chain Oil Reservoir (52) empty
Refill chain oil
Chain tensioned incorrectly
Correct chain tension as described in ‘Adjusting chain tension’
Troubleshooting
Carburettor adjustment
Note: It may be necessary to adjust the idle speed, dependant on climate, ambient temperature and elevation.
•
To adjust the idle speed, turn the Idle Adjustment Screw (42) clockwise to increase the idle speed, and
anti-clockwise to decrease the idle speed
Lubrication
•
Slightly lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals with a suitable spray lubricant
Storage
•
Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children
Preparation for long-term storage
•
Whenever the hedge trimmer is out of use for an extended period of time, proceed as follows:
1. Carry out an overall clean and a thorough check
2. Clean the air filter element
3. Drain the fuel system
4. Remove the spark plug; fill approximately one spoonful of 2-stroke oil into the cylinder through the spark
plug hole, and pull the Recoil Starter (15) gently two to three times to distribute the oil evenly. Replace the
Spark Plug
5. Slowly pull the Recoil Starter just until resistance is felt. At this point, the piston is coming up on its
compression stroke, and both the intake and exhaust valves are closed. Storing the engine in this position
will help prevent internal corrosion
6. Protect all metal parts from corrosion by coating them with oil or a machinery preservative
Storing fuel
•
Store 2-stroke mix ONLY in containers specifically designed for fuel storage
•
Store fuel in a dark place with a constant, low temperature
Disposal
Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no longer functional and are not
viable for repair.
•
Tools powered by petrol-based internal combustion engines must not be disposed of with household
waste. Such tools should be taken to your local recycling centre and disposed of according to current
environmental protection requirements in your country.
•
Petrol, oil and petrol-oil-mixtures are hazardous waste and have to be treated as such. Oil and fuel must
not be disposed of with household waste. Improper disposal may be regarded a criminal offence in your
country. Contact your local authority or dealer for correct disposal procedures for oil and old fuels.
