Tension, compression
In fact as the 50 Hz or 100 Hz sine magnetic fields varie much more slowly than the steeply
variable magnetic fields produced by modern electronic methods, the current induced by the
sine variation of the magnetic field is of inferior intensity and the therapeutic effect is normally
blander and in any cases not remarkable.
The uncorrected use of the field generators or the intrinsic limits of the used magnetic field kind
could explain the failure gotten in searches reported by some authors.
Refering to experiments effected on frogs it has been observed that the electric stimulation of
stumps is determinant for their growth in innervated subjects, this allow to retain that the
mechanism of new growth is managed from the nervous central system which is stimulated
from the electric applied impulses directly or inductively generated from the magnetic applied
field. The electric stimulation through infixed electrodes in proximity of the fractures in man
has been effected with success for a long time and the obtainable results with the application of
magnetic fields are similar to those gotten with the use of the aforesaid electrodes.
In many cases of pseudoarthrosis magnetotherapy seems to be the only conservative practicable
treatment with probability of success and the successes obtained in the stabilization of the
clinical situations or in the regression of the pathologic osteoporetic syndrome depose
objectively in favour of the therapy effected through magnetic varying fields.
ELF magnetotherapy is characterized by:
--Low frequency
--Negligible electric field
--Low radiated power
--Negligible thermic effects
--High tissue penetration
For what concern the general therapeutic parameters, low frequencies and intensity relatively
more elevated are normally prescribed to get a biostimulating effect, while elevated frequencies
and lower intensity are preferred to achieve an analgesic and/or sedative effect. The middle
frequencies and intensities are applied in the arterial circulation stimulus.
The application time vary with regard to the pathology from about ten minutes for the
arthroreumatic forms up to few hours for illness like pseudoarthrosis, and the number of
sessions from few days for treatment of inflammatory acute processes to months for illness like
pseudoarthrosis.
