FLOATING hINGE POSITION TIPS

•  To prevent heat loss and promote even cooking, do not open the lid

frequently.

•  Do not overfill the appliance; it will hold 2 to 3 servings comfortably.
•  When first cooking a particular food, check for doneness several minutes

before suggested time; if necessary adjust the time.

•  If cooking more than one piece of food, try to have them similar in size and

thickness.

•  Remember that since the appliance is cooking from both sides, cooking

time will probably be shorter than expected. Watch carefully to avoid

overcooking.

•  For added flavor, add dry seasonings before grilling or marinate foods before

cooking.

USING ThE OPEN COOKING SURFACE
1.  Raise the lid by the handle until it stops.
2.  Press the hinge release button on the bottom right side of the handle and

lower the lid until the cooking surface is fully opened.

Note: When attaching the plates and opening the cooking surface be sure the

appliance is not plugged in and is at room temperature.
3.  Attach the griddle plates and place the drip tray as instructed on page 5.
Tip: You can also use the grill plates with the open cooking surface if you need

more space to cook grilled foods, although cooking times may vary from the

times listed in the COOKING CHART section.
4.  Unwind the cord and plug it into a standard electrical outlet. The red light

on the left front corner will turn on (see illustration E).

5.  Turn the temperature control dial to the desired setting (see COOKING

CHART on page 13 for suggested settings) and allow the appliance to

preheat to the selected temperature. (See PREHEATING on page 5.)

6.  Place food to be cooked on either plate of the open cooking surface.
Important:  Do not overload the plates.
7.  Allow food to cook for the desired time, flipping halfway through, if

necessary. If desired, use a kitchen timer.

Note: Use the suggested cooking times found in the COOKING CHART on

page 13 as a guide.
Important: Do not leave the appliance unattended during use.
Important: Do not use heavy pressure on the lid at any time.
8.  After the selected time the food should be done. If you would prefer longer

cooking, simply follow the steps beginning at step 6.

9.  Remove food using the plastic spatula provided or a nylon coated spatula.
Important: Always use heatproof plastic, silicone or wood utensils to avoid

scratching the nonstick surface of the plates. Never use metal skewers,

tongs, forks or knives.
10. Unplug to turn the appliance off.
Important: The heat continues to be ON until the appliance is unplugged.
11. Allow drip tray to cool completely before removing. Wash and dry the drip

tray after each use.

Caution: Do not attempt to remove the plates while the appliance is hot.

Always allow them to cool to room temperature before removing for

cleaning.
