15. Enable the Ethernet interface by typing:
configure interfaces enable ethernet0
16. Configure and enable the serial0 interface for LAN-extension mode by typing:
configure interfaces link-encap serial0 lanx
configure interfaces enable serial0
17. Configure and enable serial0 for LAN-X management by one of two methods.
The first method configures and enables serial0 directly at the remote SC-IP by typing:
configure interfaces ip-address serial0
[###.###.###.###] [###.###.###.###]
configure interfaces ip-address default-route serial0
[default router IP]
configure lanx-router mgt serial0
The second method uses the local SC-IP to configure the IP and default route of the remote
SC-IP. Once the LAN-X link is up, type from the local SC-IP:
configure lanx-router remote ip-address serial0
[###.###.###.###]
[###.###.###.###]
configure lanx-router remote default-route serial0
[default router IP]
18. Configure Terminal Server Ports 1 through 8 as needed by typing:
configure term-serv ip-address term
[#]
[###.###.###.###]
configure term-serv description term
[#]
[your_description]
19. Enable each configured Terminal Server Ports by typing:
configure term-serv enable term
[#]
20. You have completed the configuration of the remote SC-IP in LAN-extension mode, for a flat
(no routing) network environment. You can check your settings with the following two
techniques:
•
Type
show config
to display the current configuration of the SC-IP.
•
Test your example network by pinging from your PC/workstation at the NOC to
equipment at the remote office, and vice-versa.
