Anesthetic agent measurement range check
With this test you can check anesthetic agent measurement range one anesthetic agent at a
time.
Required tools
•
an anesthesia machine with patient circuit, vaporizer and anesthesia gas scavenging
system
•
3 m / 10 ft anesthesia gas sampling line (with E-CAiO and E-CAiOV modules)
•
2 m / 7 ft anesthesia gas sampling line (with E-CAiOVX module)
•
D-fend water trap
Connections
1. Connect the module to the monitor.
2. Connect the D-Fend water trap to the module.
3. Connect the gas sampling line to the sampling line connector in the water trap.
4. Connect the other end of the gas sampling line to the anesthetic gas output. Do not
pressurize the sampling point. Use by-pass flow.
5. Connect the sample gas outlet (gas exhaust) of the module to the scavenging system.
Monitor configuration
1. Configure the AA numeric value to the monitor screen with adequate priority.
Checking the anesthetic agent measurement range
1. Turn on the monitor, and let it warm up for 2 hours.
2. Use the anesthesia machine to generate anesthetic agent, for example Desflurane. For
detailed instructions of use, refer to the user documentation provided with the anesthesia
machine.
NOTE: Remember to take good care of the scavenging.
3. Enter the gas calibration menu and start the calibration.
4. The monitor will start automatic zeroing of the gas sensors. Wait until the message
'Zeroing' is replaced by a message 'Zero Ok' for the measured gases and press Normal
screen / home key.
5. Divide the specified anesthetic agent measurement range into 4 test values. For example
for Desflurane: 4, 6, 12 and 18%.
6. Feed the selected amount of anesthetic agent until the measured value stabilizes, then
continue feeding it for 20 seconds.
Check that the measured AA value corresponds to the set value on the anesthesia
machine.
NOTE: For the gas module measurement accuracy, see the supplementary information
manual. Differences in anesthetic feeding systems may generate additional
measurement inaccuracy.
7. Repeat step 6 for each test value.
8. Set the vaporizer setting back to zero and let the system flush the remaining anesthetic
agent.
9. Change anesthetic agent and repeat steps 5 - 8.
If the monitor shows abnormal readings or 0.00 when you feed the anesthetic agent,
and/ or “Failure in Agent ID” error message on the monitor screen, the entire module must
be replaced. In this case, contact GE Healthcare service for factory repair.
