6. OPERATION
OPERATIONAL STARTUP
SmartScan
is powered by pressing and releasing the power
button located on the right hand entry side of the light
bar near the Ethernet connection. The system will cycle
through the LEDs and go through Boot-Up and Warm-
Up Mode before action is required to complete the start-
up process for Temperature Samples.
• Warming Up and Sample Calibration
1.
Slide open the
SmartScan
camera port (Figure
6-1) and power on the
SmartScan
unit (Figure
6-2).
2.
SmartScan
checks LEDs (red, blue, and green
LEDs will cycle through on both sides of the
unit) and then begins booting up with three
yellow LEDs followed by a 10-minute camera
warm up mode with nine yellow LEDs.
3.
Once the camera warm-up mode is complete,
SmartScan
shows 10 white lights and will
require 10 temperature samples to ensure
proper operation. It is recommended that the
10 temperature samples are from 10 different
people representative of the environment or 1
person who has been verified to have a normal
temp.
Walk the 10 people with normal body temp
through the walk-through starting from a
distance of 10 feet in front of the
SmartScan
unit. The white LEDs will decrease as each
sample is taken. Once the samples are
complete,
SmartScan
’s LEDs will turn blue
with a single rolling LED across the light bar.
The unit is now ready for operation. Refer to
the LED Indications in Figure 6-3 for opera-
tion
indicators.
4.
To ensure that
SmartScan
successfully records
a temperature, it is important that the face is
not obstructed by hair, hats, or other objects
while looking up at the camera. These obstruc-
tions will interfere with
SmartScan
’s ability to
detect a febrile condition. [The face should be
angled up looking at the LED indicators on the
cross piece, within 3 to 10 feet in front of the
SmartScan
unit and within the width of the
assembly.] A successful reading is indicated
when the light bar switches from blue to solid
green in Advanced mode and green to solid
green in Simple mode.
Note:
Measurements taken from
SmartScan
should not
be solely or primarily relied upon to diagnose or rule out
a diagnosis for any disease. An elevated body tempera-
ture indication from
SmartScan
must be secondarily con-
firmed by qualified personnel according to your health
screening practices and procedures using medical grade
equipment.
