A.1.2.3 Starting an Automatic Program
Automatic programs are sent to the MCTB in a step-by-step process. The download sequence must be followed
in proper order and must complete without errors to be valid. The MCTB automatically detects when a program
transfer is started when the first group of registers containing the program specific data is sent (registers 1100-
1119). The MCTB then begins looking for the total number of steps to be sent in sequential order as was set
in register 1106. Once the last step has been received, the MCTB then saves the program to memory based
on the name provided in registers 1107-1114 and sets it as the current program.
During the program transfer, register 0 will be set to 1 to indicate that the process is taking place. Once the
register value returns to zero, the program is ready to be started. If register 0 does not return to zero, then the
last step of the program was either not received, or the total number steps sent do not match the value set in
register 1106. Should this occur, the program transfer should be restarted at the PC and the entire program
sent again.
If any other write command is sent during a program transfer, the program transfer will be aborted and register
0 will return to a value of 0. The program download will then have to begin again. Program downloads must
be performed as a continuous transfer from start to finish with no interruptions.
