GSM/LTE option (Q3/4 2017)
The GSM/LTE option adds a cellular network connectivity to the RTU-810. Equipped
with this option the RTU-810 can attach to mobile GSM or LTE networks for IP
connectivity and remote control / alarm messaging.
The GSM/LTE option adds a second antenna connector of type SMA to the RTU-810 to
connect the GSM antenna. A standard SIM card slot will be available on the left side of
the RTU-810.
4.4.1
IP connectivity via GSM/LTE
The RTU-810 can establish a PPP connection to the mobile network to gain internet
access. The connection can be used to access the RTU-810 via IP connection, enable the
RTU-810 to send out alarm messages from PicoLogo and event logger messages to a
SMTP syslog server or by email. Also the time base for time slot operation and the real
time clock can synchronize to a SNTP time server via GSM/LTE.
Finally, a RTU-810/TRM-810 master device can connect to a RGW-810 radio gateway
to use remote parts of the radio network via this connection in case no local Ethernet
connection is in place. It can also communicate directly with other RTU-810 via IP in a
Point-to-(Multi)point setup.
Note:
Common SIM cards will not gain a public available IP address from the network
provider as they mostly operate within an isolated IP area inside the mobile network.
Internet access will be established using a firewall proxy by the internet provider.
This enables outgoing connections from the RTU-810 to the internet / public IP
addresses, so that a RTU-810/TRM-710 as a master can establish communications to
other RTU-810 or RGW-810 which are available on a fixed public IP in the internet.
Also alarm emails and SMTP trap messages can be sent this way.
But in these scenarios incoming connections, i.e. to poll the RTU-810 via IP as a
master, are not possible as they are blocked by the network provider's firewall.
If the RTU-810 should be also accessed in incoming direction, SIM cards / tariffs must
be used which give the RTU-810 a public IP address or an IP address inside a VPN
provided by the mobile network provider where the customer has an access entry to.
