8 Hot pluggable hard disk drives
A maximum of two SAS or SATA hard disk drives can be installed in the
PRIMERGY RX100 S4 server. There is a "hot pluggable" and a "non-hot
pluggable" SATA server version.

If your server is a non-hot pluggable SATA server version, this chapter is
not relevant to you.
Upgrades, updates and replacement of non-hot pluggable components
are described in the “Options Guide” or in the service supplement and
may only be performed by authorized specialist personnel.
The hot pluggable hard disk drives are fitted in an assembly bracket, which
allows new drives to be added and defective drives to be replaced during
operation of the server. The hard disk drive and the assembly bracket combine
to form the hard disk drive module (referred to as the "HDD module" in this
document).
This chapter provides you with details of how to handle the HDD modules (see
page 70 ) and how to install and remove HDD modules on your server (see
page 72 ).

CAUTION!
A hard disk drive may only be removed from the HDD module by a
service technician.

CAUTION!
The HDD modules must be marked clearly so that they can be replaced
in their original slots after being removed. If this is not done, existing data
can be lost.

The hot plug function is only possible in conjunction with a corresponding
RAID configuration.
