Starting up and operation Configuring the server
Configuring the onboard SATA controller
The server is equipped with an onboard SATA controller, which supports RAID
levels 0 and 1 with LSI SATA Software RAID. Configure the controller
before
you start using ServerStart .

The controller has its own configuration utility. More detailed information
may be found in the “Embedded SATA Software RAID for ICH7R User’s
Guide” manual (on the
ServerBooks DVD under “Controllers”).

Note on SATA ID :
Note that the SATA IDs for the hot pluggable hard disk drives are fixed
(from right to left in the sequence 1, 2).
The
ServerStart
Disc supplied allows you to conveniently configure the server
and install the operating system. The menu-guided configuration includes the
server configuration with the
SCU
and the RAID configuration with the
GAM
(Global Array Manager) or
ServerView RAID
.

Descriptions of operating systems not covered in the RAID controller
manual are provided in the appropriate readme files on the driver CDs.
Details of how to operate ServerStart and further information can be found in the
“PRIMERGY ServerView Suite - ServerStart” manual (see “Literature” on
page 77 ).
If you are using ServerStart , you can skip the following sections on how to
configure the server and install the operating system. Continue with section
“Cleaning the server” on page 61 .
