Tone Match [TMA]
The
Tone Match
block matches the sound of the Axe-Fx II to
the sound of another amp, recording, or device. It does this
by analyzing the difference between a “reference signal” and
the sound of a starting point preset (the “local” signal).
The Tone matching process is covered by a separate mini-
manual available on our web site. Here is a summary:
1.
CREATE
a starting point preset on the Axe-Fx II, dialing it in as close as possible to the desired tone. Don’t
forget to include the Tone Match block, positioned where it can “hear” the designated reference signal
and the output of your starting preset.
2.
CONFIGURE
the
Tone Match block input options and connect or route the reference signal to the Axe-Fx.
3.
CAPTURE
the reference and local signals (using X and Y buttons) and watch as frequency plots are drawn
in the display.
4.
COMPARE
the reference and local signals (pressing ENTER) to produce the final Tone Match.
5.
COMPLETE
the process by saving the preset. Tone Match data is stored inside the preset, which can be
copied, exported or shared without needing to attach anything extra.

REF SOURCE
– This specifies where the Tone Match block will pick up the Reference Signal.
REF CHAN, LOCAL CHAN
– The tone Match block can analyze and process only in mono. These
parameters determines whether left, right, or a sum of left and right channels will be monitored by the tone
match block for the “reference” and “local” signals.
AVG TIME
– Determines how long of a time window is used during signal capture. Setting this to max
invokes PEAK HOLD mode, which uses the maximum value observed for any frequency instead of averaging.
AMOUNT
– Scales the Tone Match between full and flat, determining the magnitude of its effect.
SMOOTHING
– This reduces the prevalence of peaks and valleys in the IR to ease a “notchy” sound.
