bolus will be reported as a loading dose, otherwise a
loading dose will not be reported.
On completion of this field, the
PCA TEST
screen is
invoked.
Note: When testing PCA pump performance it is
essential that new syringes be used. It has been
observed that syringe performance degrades rapidly
after about 10 uses. The deterioration is particularly
noticeable at the start of a bolus when the flow rate is
increasing rapidly. It is characterized by a very high
initial flow rate at the start of the bolus (4 to 5 times the
bolus flow rate). This can cause the end of the bolus to
be detected at the end of the spike.
PCA Test Screen
This screen displays the measured output of the flow
rate, volume and duration of the last bolus delivered,
and the average flow rate, volume and duration of all
boluses delivered. It will also display the measured
basal rate, total delivered volume, total test time and
time interval between the last two boluses delivered.
PCA Test Screen (Prime Mode)
When the screen is first displayed, the operator is
prompted to prime the channel. This is essential to
ensure that the measuring circuit is filled with fluid. It is
particularly important that the instrument is carefully
primed when the loading dose is to be measured.
Prime
This prompt stays on the screen while there is any air in
the measuring circuit. Pressing
ENTER
while this
prompt displays
PRIME
will not have any effect. As
the circuit is primed the prompt will change to
START
and advance to
Start Mode
. There may be some
flickering between
PRIME
and
START
as bubbles are
pushed through the system.
ESC
Selecting
ESC
or pressing
ESC
on the external
keyboard takes the operator back to the
CHANNEL
SETUP
menu.
