There are two diagnosis options available via PROFIBUS:
In the cyclical I/O data, the ‘malfunction’ status bit and
the current error word are continually transmitted the
master.
When a malfunction occurs, the HGPPI−... provides a device−
related diagnosis in accordance with EN50170 Part 2.
6.3.1 Diagnosis by evaluating the cyclical I/O data
The HGPPI−... transfers the ‘malfunction’ status bit and the
current malfunction number in the input data with every I/O
cycle. With this, a PLC or IPC can very easily determine a mal
function and its cause.

As long as no malfunction is active in the HGPPI−... the
HGPPI−... transfers the value 0 (= no malfunction active)
in the error word.
If a malfunction occurs, the HGPPI−... sets the bit to 0
(=‘malfunction’) in the status wor d and enters the malfunc
tion number in the error word. A description of the error word
can be found in Section 6.4.2.
The application program in the PLC can cyclically monitor
the bit 0 (‘malfunction’). If it is set, it can execute a reaction,
which depends on the malfunction number.
