5.0 START-UP AND CONTROL PANEL
5.3
PAUSE, SHUT-DOWN AND PROLONGED INACTIVITY
In normal working conditions, the compressors are switched on and off automatically by the microprocessor. Depending on the thermal load
(with a water temperature check), the controller directly enables or disables compressor operation following the correct safety sequences.
The chiller is fitted with a safety device to prevent it from being switched on at close distances and avoid damaging the compressor. After being
switched off, a delay is foreseen so that the compressor cannot be switched on again immediately afterwards.
Shut-down
When a long period of inactivity is expected or, for safety reasons, when work needs to be carried out on the system, it is possible to switch off
the equipment permanently.
The procedure for shutting down the chiller is the same as the procedure for switching it on.
To shut down the machine simply:
-
turn off the equipment from the controller, following the instructions in paragraph 5.3.1.3
–
MENU ON-OFF
–
Switching the unit
on and off
-
wait for a few minutes to allow the equipment to be shut down properly, including all of the components (compressors, fans, etc.),
making sure that all of the components have stopped
-
rotate the master switch with the door lock from the
“ON”
position to the
“OFF”
position
Prolonged inactivity
When shutting down the equipment for extended periods of time, it is necessary to empty the water circuit to avoid damaging the components
due to the risk of ice, especially in winter.
Starting the system again after an extended period of inactivity restores the initial start-up status. Follow all of the rules and instructions provided
in the specific chapter.
When shutting down the equipment for more than 4 hours, it is necessary to pre-heat the oil (crankcase oil heater: optional accessory) before
switching the unit on again.

MICROPROCESSOR AND MAIN COMMANDS
The units in this series are fitted with a microprocessor system called
“
c.pCO
”
, which controls all of the hydraulic and cooling parameters, sending
the commands to the various machine components for correct operational management.
The operating system
“
EKapt
”
has been specifically designed to manage chillers with scroll compressors.
The microprocessor installed on the machine is a complete and particularly complex system. It can provide all of the operating characteristics,
operating information and general information, which make it possible to know the unit’s operating status.
In the event of a fault, the equipment provides a visual and acoustic alarm signal and error codes that make it possible to identify the type of
fault. Simple procedures allow operation to be reset (except refrigeration operations).
It is important to set the microprocessor carefully to avoid serious problems related to machine operation and incorrect working. You are advised
not to change the factory settings, especially the refrigeration circuit parameters (differentials, intervention thresholds, safety devices) and to
contact highly qualified members of personnel, if necessary.
Two different types of microprocessors are used in the EKS chiller series, as shown in the figures below, depending on whether there are one or
two circuits. The operating system and windows that will be displayed on the screen will be exactly the same.
Refer to the summary table in the following paragraph to identify the microprocessor model quickly and easily.
Some of the procedures for making changes to the microprocessor control system are described below. The operations are not complex, but
they must be followed carefully to obtain the desired result.
