4.0 INSTALLATION AND CONNECTIONS
4.3
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
Members of personnel authorised to operate on the machine are
“
Electrical maintenance technicians
”.
Before proceeding, the power supplies must be disconnected, making sure that they cannot be connected.
The fittings for the electrical connection are identified by special plates indicating the phases (L1, L2, L3).
Please refer to the electrical diagram of the chiller to make the electrical connections correctly. An extract of the connection
is shown at the side by way of example.
The EKS chiller series fits the phase sequence relay as standard. This type of device is used to control the
sequence and phase failure in a 400 V three-phase system with error detection as a result of the presence
of regenerated voltage (which is the voltage that fails on the electrical panel but which is partially
regenerated by the controlled motor). The relay disengages (it will not close) in the following cases:
incorrect phase sequence; when at least one of the 3 phases falls below 80% in relation to the others.
Moreover, the relay normally works energized
also to guarantee “passive safety”
: in the event of a fault or phase failure,
the relay disengages. The device resets automatically, so as soon as the conditions are verified again, the contact will close
immediately. The appliance is fitted with a warning LED, which also makes it possible to check the status of the supply
visually (refer to the picture shown by way of example at the side).
When the LED is fixed, operation is correct; a flashing LED signals a fault with the power supply. In this case, check that the
electrical connections are correct, inverting the connection order of the phases.
Power supply
Make the electrical power supply connections following the electrical diagram enclosed with the machine, respecting the phase sequence L1,
L2, L3; neutral is not included. The end user is responsible for
the correct sizing of the machine’s power cord depending on the overall current
absorbed, which is stated on the identification plate (EC) and on the enclosed electrical diagram, and on the type of installation. The cord must
also be protected by a safety device on the user’s electrical system
.
Particular care must be taken when making the ground connection to the system with the special terminal inside the electrical
panel (PE).
An example of the wire connection is shown in the picture below. The electrical power supply connection L1, L2, L3 must be made
from the bottom, as shown in the figure.
Connection and emergency stop
The machine must be fitted with a magnetothermic switch, which the installer must put in a
position that is easy to reach and access if necessary.
It is essential to check that all of the connections are carried out to the highest standards.
Imprecise operations can compromise the good working of the equipment, cause serious damage
and, more importantly, put operators
’
and users’ safety at serious risk
.
Any anomalies identified during the machine inspection phase must be reported to the
Manufacturer and operating on the machine is not permitted.
Check that none of the connection points of the electrical cabling wires is loose and that
there is no risk of hazardous contacts.
Check that all of the fixed protections are assembled and completely bolted and that the
movable ones are in a closed position.
