Finding the Correct Height
There are many different ways to calculate the ideal seat height for mountain bike
riders. However, a good general rule of thumb is that when you are sitting on the bike
and you extend one leg fully (so that one of the pedals is at its lowest point, and the
other is at its highest), your heel should just touch the top of the lower pedal. When
you position your feet normally on the pedals your knees should be slightly bent.
Dynamic Seat Adjustment
1. The bike utilises a 100 mm adjustable dropper seat post; to engage this function
press and hold the control lever (Fig. 21) in order to alter the saddle height (Fig. 22).
While holding down this lever, press your weight onto the saddle in order to make
the seat post go down. Once the seat has reached a satisfactory height, release
and restore the control lever to its original position in order to lock the seat in place.
2. In order to raise the seat post, press and hold the control panel while there is no
weight on the saddle. The seat post will then rise. Once the seat has reached a
satisfactory height, release and restore the control lever to lock the seat in place.
One of the main benefits of a dynamic seat adjustment like this is the ability to
reposition its height while riding. This means that you can achieve the ideal positioning
for every stage of your ride.
For instance, when approaching a tougher section of a trail, or a particularly tight
corner, lowering the seat post lowers your centre of gravity and can give you greater
control and stability when manoeuvring these sections.
In addition, when cycling down a steep drop, lowering the seat height can keep your
weight more evenly distributed across the two wheels. If you kept your seat post
height in a more upright position you risk your weight shifting onto the front wheel and
potentially falling from the bike.
On flatter ground and when climbing inclines, having a higher seat is best, as it will
allow you to fully extend your legs every time you pedal, so you can achieve maximum
speed and power.
