7. If the caliper touches the brake disc when the
wheel moves (see note), slightly loosen the
screws holding the caliper to the frame of the
bike, using the M6 allen key (Fig. 6). Very gently
shift the caliper by hand until it is centered around
the disc (see previous step). Hold the caliper in
place as you tighten the screws. Double check
that the caliper screws have been correctly
tightened before riding.
8. Insert the axle back through the fork (and the
centre of the wheel), and tighten it by hand to
start with. Ensure the wheel an equal distance
between each side of the fork (Fig. 7). Then use
the M6 allen key to securely tighten the axle (Fig.
8).
9. Gently spin the front wheel. If the caliper is
rubbing against the brake disc, follow step 7 in
order to fix this. Squeeze the front brake lever
(right hand side) while the wheel is spinning to
ensure that the brakes are working correctly
and the wheel stops moving.
NOTE:
The front disc brake has been pre-adjusted;
only make alterations to the caliper's position when
the disc brake pad touches the rotor.
As per the Australian/New Zealand standard, the
left brake lever controls the rear brake and the right
brake lever controls the front brake. To achieve the
maximum amount of stopping power, please use
both brakes.
CAUTION!
• After removing the protector from front disc brake caliper, do not use the front
brake unless the front wheel has been assembled (with the brake disc inside of
the caliper), otherwise it could damage the brake.
• The Estate bike uses hydraulic disc brakes, which over time will require
maintenance including bleeding or replacement of the hydraulic fluid and
replacement of the brake pads. This is best performed by a reputable bicycle
mechanic.
