When the air temperature in the collectors exceeds the set point, the bypass damper opens in
order to allow a temperature mix equal to the set point temperature. The hot air intake damper of
the collector simultaneously closes (since both dampers are always connected to each other)
either mechanically (for small systems that allow the use of just one modulating motor) or by
automation. The proportion of direct fresh air or air heated by the collectors may vary
continuously during the course of a day’s operation depending on the amount of sunlight and
outside temperature.
5.5 Air balancing
When there is more than one row of collectors, Enerconcept Technologies provides or
recommends the use of a balancing key at the beginning of each collector row in order to balance
the air flow coming from each row. It is important that each row of collectors has the same unitary
airflow in order to maximise the system’s thermal output and to achieve the projected energy
savings.
Once the air flow has been measured and adjusted with the balancing keys, these should be
tightened and kept in place in a permanent manner and should only be readjusted in the case of
modifications to the ventilation system or to the number of collectors.
