Warning
Read this instruction manual thoroughly before you begin using
the MD-420. It contains highlighted passages detailing the safety
principles for using the device. Following these will prevent po-
tential injury by electric current or damaging of the device. The
multimeter was designed in accordance with standard IEC-61010
applying to electronic measuring devices within category CAT III
300 V, pollution degree 2. Category CAT III is intended for measur-
ing circuits through equipment powered by fixed cabling, such
as relays, sockets, power strips, feeder lines and short branching
circuits and lighting systems in large buildings.

This symbol indicates a risk of injury by electric current.
This symbol means: warning, danger. Read every section of
the manual where this symbol is used!
WARNING
Above all, follow these instructions:
• Make sure the device is not damaged before you begin using
the multimeter. If you find any damage, do not make any
measurements with the device! Make sure that the surface
of the multimeter is not scratched and that the side joints
are not coming apart.
• Do not measure voltages higher than 300 V or currents
higher than 10 A!
• The “COM” terminal must always be connected to the refer-
ence measuring earth.
• Check the measuring tips as well. Insulation on the measur-
ing probes should not have any visible signs of damage. If
the insulation is damaged, there is a risk of injury by electric
current. Therefore, do not use damaged measuring probes.
• Do not use the multimeter if you find abnormal measure-
ment results. Such results may be caused by a damaged
fuse. If you are unsure of the cause of a defect, contact a
service centre.
• Do not use or store the multimeter in environments with
high temperature, dustiness or humidity. It is also not
recommended to use the device in environments where
strong magnetic fields may be present or where there is a
risk of explosion or fire.
• Do not use the multimeter to measure higher voltages (and
currents) than stated on the front panel of the multimeter.
Otherwise, you risk injury by electric current and damage
to the multimeter!
• Before use, make sure the multimeter works correctly. Test
a circuit with known electrical quantities.
• Before you connect the multimeter to a circuit you intend to
measure, turn off the power supply to the circuit.
• If you need to replace a part of the multimeter (e.g. bat-
tery, fuse), always use spare parts of the same type and
specifications. Replace parts only when the multimeter is
disconnected and switched off.
• Do not change or otherwise modify the internal circuits of
the multimeter!
