Hydraulic Retrieval Tool

4.4.1 Hydraulic Retriever
With reference to retriever GA drawing in attachement 1.
Disassembly and cleaning:
Make sure all seals are installed at the correct position when reassembling the tool. If in doubt,
check the GA drawing and measure the o-ring size.
1. Pump inner rod and inner barrel back to main cylinder head.
2. Remove bleed off valve (3), pressure gauge (2) and quick couplings (41), (46).
3. Remove set screw (1), and use hook wrench to unscrew union thread adapter (16). Remove
hummer nut and union thread adapter from main body (11).
4. Unscrew the 6 bolts (18) and remove main cylinder head. Make sure to have a bucket available to
drain the hydraulic fluid into.
5. Use a wooden stick to push out inner barrel (13) and connecting rod (14) to the back of main
cylinder. Be careful to avoid damaging the seals (10) (24) (26) (27).
6. Remove washer (15) from connecting rod.
7. Push out connecting rod (14) from the inner barrel (13). Be careful to avoid damaging the seal (29)
(20) (21) (22) and (35).
7. Remove bypass head valve (35) form the main cylinder head (12)
All parts can now be properly cleaned and inspected. Use the wood stick, rugs and lubrication/cleaning
solvent to clean the bores of outer and inner barrel.
After cleaning, all surfaces should be lubricated with a multipurpose lubricant that also drives out
moisture and protects against corrosion.
Assembly:
Assembly will be done in the reverse order of disassembly. Additional key points for the assembly will
be the following:
1. When installing connecting rod (14) into inner barrel (13), be careful to avoid damage on the seal
inside inner barrel. Make sure all seals are greased up properly before reassembling.
2. When installing inner barrel (13) into the main cylinder, be careful to avoid damaging the seals on
inner barrel. It would be best to insert the inner barrel 12 o’clock on the main cylinder (11) to make sure
that you get the seals in correct position. (Use rubber hammer to push the inner barrel inside).
3. Ensure that the main bolts (18) are greased up before installing main cylinder head (12).
4. Tighten main bolts (18) with 153 Nm torque. Tighten in cross pattern.
5. Ensure O-ring inside the union thread adapter (16) is in place and properly greased.
6.Tighten union thread adapter with caution to ensure no damage on its threads.
7. Use a threaded sealant (Loctite or similar) when installing the pressure gauge and bleed valve.
