Layer 2 Protocol Tunneling (L2PT) function configuration
Layer 2 Protocol Tunneling (L2PT) allows forwarding L2-Protocol PDU through a service provider
network, that provides transparent connection between client segments of the network.
L2PT encapsulates PDU on boundary switch, transmits to another boundary switch, which expect
and decapsulate them . It allows users to transmit Level 2 data through the service provider network.
MES3000 allows encapsulating of PDU in STP, LACP, LLDP, IS-IS protocols.
Example
When L2PT is enabled for STP, switches A, B, C and D are combined in one spanning tree, despite
the fact that switch A is not connected to the switches B, C and D directly (Fig. 24). Information about
changing in the topology of the network can be transmitted through the service provider network.
