15.2.4.1 Without Selection of a Different Outbound Radial
The AFCS 85T31 includes a VOR overstation sensor (OSS) which inhibits response to the beam
signal when in the cone of confusion above the VOR station.
When the beam rate becomes excessive, only course data are fl own for a time interval (approxi-
mately 45 seconds). OSS warning light comes on.
When the timed interval has elapsed the system reverts to the VOR tracting piloting law and the
OSS warning light goes out.
15.2.4.2 With Selection of a Different Outbound Radial
A different outbound radial can be selected while over the station when the TO-FROM indi-
cator changes direction. In this case, the helicopter will follow as though it were heading so
providing a preliminary rough interception of the new radial.
After a time interval (45 seconds after course pointer motion) the OSS warning light goes
out and the helicopter intercepts and tracks the new radial.
NOTE:
1) Beep-trim and stick release are disabled as soon as VOR mode is effective.
2) The pilot is not supposed to operate these commands unless safety demands.
OSS PHASE CAN BE INADVERTENTLY PILOT INTRODUCED BY RAPID MOTION OF
THE COURSE POINTER ON THE HSI.
